Seafarer:Voluntary SSS Loan

Last November 2011 my mom had a vacation here in The Philippines and one of her to do list was to file her SSS retirement as she is now on her 60's so it's about time to claim her pension. Unfortunately, she discovered that somebody used her SSS and filed a loan under her name way back 1994, on that year my mom was working abroad as OFW. It was really a big joke, could you imagine how much the penalty of the loan? It reaches over P50,000+++. Luckily SSS  offers loan penalty condonation program today where you can settle your account at a minimal range depending on the reason behind the member's loan delinquency.

Last January 16, 2012 clueless  i went to SSS to try if i could file a loan as a seafarer, as a result of the  the above story. My mom now is encouraging me to make a loan on SSS before somebody else uses it! Yes as a seafarer we are entitled to pay our monthly  SSS, Philhealth, and HDMF(Pag-ibig) contributions as a deduction to our allotment. Seaferers can file for a voluntary loan considering you have already reached 36 posted payments irregardless if you have paid it straight or broken months. For example you have a two months vacation and for 2011 you haven't paid it, as long as you have 36 posted payments you are qualified to file a voluntary loan. So i went to the counter and told the SSS representative that i am a seafarer and i would like to file a personal loan. They advised me to pay atleast one month of my voluntary contribution for this year January 2012 worth P1, 560. After i paid i presented my receipt back to the representative and i presented two valid id's aside from my SSS id. SSS granted me P15,000 loan equivalent to my one month allotment range. In the future if i will file a loan again they will grant me P24,000 on my second loan, that is the maximum loanable amount on SSS. Unlike HDMF (Pag-ibig) the frequent you do it, the loanable amount will be getting higher and higher. I will have to wait a month before my SSS check arrives, by that time i'm already back abroad so the best thing my hubby could do is to deposit my check to my bank account as advised by our close friends who work on a bank.

To my fellow seafarers i am encouraging you to use your SSS before you will have the same story that happened to my mom. What's the use of paying it if we won't use it. As soon as you're back in Pinas file right away your SSS loan since it will take a month to release the check.
Taralets go to SSS ASAP!
